Owning a groodle requires a significant amount of grooming. In fact, any dog with Poodle DNA will need their coat brushed and trimmed regularly!

One of the biggest advantages of owning a groodle, beyond their temperament, is their low-shedding coat. However, low shedding also means constantly growing.

So, if you’re new to groodle ownership and are looking for tips, we cover the basics of grooming below.

IMPORTANT: Taking care of your groodle’s grooming needs at home is doable. But it does require a significant amount of your time. You must stay on top of tangles and mats, which is why daily brushing is so highly recommended. Mats pull on your dog’s skin and are quite painful. If you brush your dog daily and stay on top of trimming their nails and keeping their ears and teeth clean, your groodle’s grooming sessions with a professional will be much less expensive and lower stress for your dog.

Brush for at least 5-10 minutes EVERY day using a slicker brush and metal tooth comb to keep fur free of mats and tangles.

I would advise to watch plenty of grooming videos, which can be found on Youtube, to get yourself familiar with the grooming process.

TIP: Start doing this with your puppy to help them get use to the process!

Once a week, use a de-matting tool and a detangling spray to get out the tougher knots so they don't become a hassle down the road.

Use sharp scissors to trim around the eyes and bottom in between grooms, to maintain hygiene.

Bathe, blow dry, and brush at least once a month to thoroughly cleanse your groodle. Make sure to use a high-quality dog shampoo.

For puppies you can use a tearless baby shampoo. This allows you to wash as often as you need without stripping the oils from your puppies coat.

Blowing dry after bathing aids in keeping your Groodle knot free. Completely dry the coat BEFORE BRUSHING

Every 6-8 weeks, take your Groodle into a professional grooming salon for a groom, nail, ear, and paw pad trim. If you've been keeping up with your daily/weekly grooming at home, this groom will be a breeze and may not be needed as often (saving you lots of $$$).
